10 Canadian Swimwear Brands to Shop This Summer
Hit the sand in style this beach season.
by : Allie Turner- May 2nd, 2024
Summer in Canada means dockside sunbathing, dips in the lake, long lazy beach days, and if you’re lucky, maybe even a boat trip or two. Whatever your summer plans, these 10 trendy Canadian swimwear brands have you covered, from athletic one piece suits to skimpy bikinis.
Left On Friday
When Vancouver-based active and swimwear brand Left On Friday isn’t outfitting the Canadian olympic volleyball team they’re creating insanely comfortable swimwear for the rest of us. The buttery smooth proprietary fabric hugs the body and comes in multiple cuts and colourways that can be mixed and matched depending on your needs. Some of the long-sleeve T-shirt designs even include UV protection.
Knix
Knix made a name for itself with buzzy celebrity collabs (hello, Gabrielle Union) and smoothing supportive shapewear and after expanding its offerings to include active apparel and swimwear, the Canadian brand couldn’t be stopped. The Knix mix and match swimwear collections are made to fit multiple body types with many of the tops offering sizes that take the cup and band size into consideration to accommodate larger chested girlies in a way most other swimwear brands don’t.
Beth Richards
One piece bathing suits don’t have to be boring or matronly and they’re not just for people who want to cover up. No swimwear brand proves that more than Beth Richards. The sustainable Canadian brand offers bikinis and mix and match two-piece sets but it’s the one pieces that have caught our eye. The bold prints, cut outs and off-the-shoulder details upgrade the typical utilitarian one piece to something statement making on the beach this summer.
Strawberry Milk Mob
Vancouverites might recognize Georgia Costello from their Tik Tok FYP. The content creator made a name for herself on social media under the handle StrawberryMilkMob which she then parlayed into a podcast and swimwear brand which specializes in itsy bitsy bikinis. Costello and her sisters Sydney and Sabrina (Coconut and Blueberry Milk Mob respectively) model for the young up-and-coming brand which has a large collection consisting of mix and match designs that are surprisingly affordable ($45 per piece). Most of the bikinis are suitable for people with smaller chests but there are a few “Blueberry approved” pieces that suit D-cups and larger. There’s also a new launch set to drop later this week.
Everyday Sunday
Montreal-based swimwear brand Everyday Sunday focuses on comfort and inclusion as part of its mandate. The brand’s designs are diverse, ranging from sexy bikinis to versatile and largely customizable one-pieces with multiway straps, removal cups and silhouette shaping options to ensure the best fit possible, no matter your needs or mood that day. Keep an eye out for the Eco stamp on pieces made from 89% recycled nylon for an added environmentally-friendly bonus.
Ocin
Ocin (pronounced Ocean) is a Canadian purpose-led swimwear brand currently on its third chapter. Founded in Vancouver Ocin partners with artists, entrepreneurs and nonprofits each year to create limited edition special project pieces and co-facilitate initiatives that make the world a greener place. Ocin’s swimwear is released in small annual collections of contemporary minimalist designs. The seamless pieces are made from quick-drying recycled polyester and nylon for men and women. The brand also helps recycle your old swimwear (from any brand) and sweetens the deal with a 10 percent discount on your next purchase.
Visual Mood
Visual Mood brought back the reversible swimsuit in a stunning and sophisticated way. Yes, the materials are exquisite and breathable materials but the classically feminine silhouettes and stunning vintage-inspired patterns are what really caught our attention. The brand’s latest collection takes its cues from embroidery and lacework to create swimwear that resembles fabric and that you won’t want to take off even after you leave the beach. Luckily you could always pair the suit with the Jules tiered mini skirt for a beach-to-patio ensemble. No one would ever know.
Anna Kosturova
Anna Kosturova’s eponymous boho brand would fit right into a sweaty 70s beach party. The handmade crochet and tie-dyed swimwear pieces are fully lined, water safe, and reinforced with an elastic trim to help keep the shape of the bathing suit after it gets wet (though hot tubs are not recommended because chemicals can alter the colour). Not that you’ll necessarily want to get in the water in these bikinis that were made to look sexy wandering around the resort or lounging poolside. The champagne collection in particular is hand crocheted with gold metallic yarn for a sun goddess shimmer that would sparkle on a lounger.
Selfish Swimwear
Montreal-based boutique and atelier Selfish Swimwear seriously missed the opportunity for a pun but we can forgive them for that. The sustainable designer brand utilizes eco-friendly materials and ethical manufacturing processes to create its vibrant hued bikinis and playful printed one pieces. Selfish Swimwear’s collection, Lineas Fuera de Control, is a collaboration with Mexican artist and fashion designer Oscar Mendoza and exactly what it sounds like: lines and patterns that are out of control. But if bold isn’t your style, Selfish also has classic silhouettes in neutral colours as well, there’s a little something for everyone.
Londre Bodywear
Londre Bodywear isn’t concerned with the over the top swimwear. The Vancouver based brand understands the importance of sustainability and building a strong foundational wardrobe. The collections are made from recycled plastic water bottles and produced with minimal waste and without the use of toxic dyes. Londre does have bikinis but the brand rose to prominence thanks to itss one pieces that are designed for the real world and made to last.
