Beef (Netflix)
Beef
Putting Steven Yeun and Ali Wong in an atmospheric dramedy together is something that feels like it was incepted Christopher Nolan-style from the deepest part of my subconscious and put on screen as a gift. On the surface, Beef is about two strangers who get into a road-rage incident that devolves into an out-of-control feud, but you can trust that it’s about much more than that.
Available: April 6
Obsession
I have a feeling that the main character in British thriller series Obsession won’t be winning any father of year awards. You see, the London surgeon meets his son’s fiancée, develops an all-consuming erotic infatuation with her that threatens to change all of their lives forever. Richard Armitage, Indira Varma, Charlie Murphy and Rish Shah star.
Available: April 13
Florida Man
You’ve seen the Florida Man memes, a.k.a. the collection of wild and hard-to-believe headlines out of local Florida news outlets. Now, get ready for an edge-of-your-seat drama inspired by the caricature—yes, really. Edgar Ramírez stars as the titular man, a disgraced former cop who returns to his home state to track down a mobster’s girlfriend and pay off his debts. What should be a simple task instead leads to a spiral of danger, family secrets and who knows what else.
Available: April 13
Queenmaker
Miss the salacious political intrigue of Scandal? Then the new Korean drama Queenmaker may be for you. The series follows an influential fixer Hwang Do-hee (Kim Hee-ae), who after years of doing years of conscience-weighing work for a huge conglomerate, decides to use her skills to get a righteous civil rights lawyer (Moon So-ri) elected as the mayor of Seoul.
Available: April 14
Queens on the Run
You know that trip you and your BFFs have been dreaming of taking but never actually make concrete plans for? Well, the four friends in Mexican action-comedy Queens on the Run decide to finally take it. But along the way, they get themselves into a lot of trouble that they aren’t exactly prepared to handle. Also, they have a pet chicken.
Available: April 14
Seven Kings Must Die
British historical flick Seven Kings Must Die is a sequel to the series The Last Kingdom, which finished its five-season run last year. The film kicks off after the death of King Edward, and follows protagonist Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon) as he tries to build a united kingdom while various groups battle for the crown.
Available: April 14
The Diplomat
Keri Russell is finally back on TV and I could not be happier. She stars in the The Diplomat as Kate Wyler (the titular role), who lands a huge, high-profile job that she doesn’t actually want or think is in her skillset, which then thrusts her into the middle of an international crisis.
A Tourist’s Guide to Love
Girl gets dumped. Girl goes on vacation to unwind and escape her woes. Girl meets a charming tour guide who opens her eyes up to a different side of the world, life and love. That’s what you’ll get from A Tourist’s Guide to Love—which stars Rachael Leigh Cook—and it sounds kind of perfect.
Available: April 21
John Mulaney: Baby J
It’s been a while since John Mulaney released his last standup special, and a lot in his life has changed since then—all of which has been covered exhaustively across various media outlets. In John Mulaney: Baby J, which was filmed in Boston in February, the comedian touches on everything from his drug relapse, rehab stay and becoming a father for the first time.
Available: April 25
Firefly Lane (Season 2, Part 2)
The story of Kate (Sarah Chalke) and Tully (Katherine Heigl) comes to an end in this final batch of episodes of Firefly Lane. If you saw the first part of season two, you know why the tight-knit BFFs stopped speaking. Now, the only question that remains is if the two will make up before it’s too late.
