Even the latest looks from the
Valentino Haute Couture runway—we’re talking about you
Ms Perry!—couldn’t compete with
Pharrell’s ranger-esque topper. It quickly became the defining accessory at
last night’s Grammys. The tony chapeau’s inspired style origins were credited to Indiana Jones, Smokey the Bear—and even our beloved Mounties. It set off a marketer’s dream—the Internet meme—and launched several twitter accounts such as @Pharrellhat and @Pharrellshat. Runner up in the "hat" category goes to the
Daft Punk’s helmets; they are the perfect bad-hair go-to accessory. Honourable mention to Nile Rogers for his hipster mauve tam. Their performance was the “hat-trick” of the evening. (If
Pink had worn a cap during her spectacular Cirque du Soleil number she might have trumped this trio.)
What were some of my favourite Pharrell memes and riffs?
