Selena Gomez might have been in one of the most talked about relationships of the last two decades but she’s now an icon for single girls everywhere.

The 31-year-old hasn’t been officially linked to anyone since she and her on-and-off boyfriend, Justin Bieber, broke up in 2018. In the years since, Selena has sung about everything from heartbreak to empowerment, while making multiple statements about enjoying single life on social media.

With a new song about the topic, “Single Soon”, we thought now would be a good time to take a look back at everything Selena Gomez has said about being single.

Selena has released multiple tracks about being single. One of her most iconic single anthems is “Lose You to Love Me”, where she sings about letting go of her relationship with Justin Bieber for her self worth.

Selena returned to the topic in her single, “Look at Her Now”, when she sings about moving on from a relationship with the lyrics, “Of course she was sad / But now she’s glad she dodged a bullet (mm) / Took a few years to soak up the tears / But look at her now, watch her go.”

Her newest track, “Single Soon,” is about the desire to be single while in a relationship. The lyrics, “I’m picking out this dress/Trying on these shoes/Cause I’ll be single soon/I’ll be single soon,” are all about the fun side of being unattached.

What Else Has Selena Gomez Said About Being Single?

Selena hasn’t only commented on her single status though her music—she’s also spoken about being single on social media.

In April 2023, Selena posted a video of herself mouthing Leslie Mann’s monologue from The Other Woman, which goes “the last time I was single I was 24 and the dating pool was everyone. And now it’s like a puddle of age-appropriate men who are old and gross, and I don’t want to do that.”

Selena captioned the video, “Me walking into my 30s, I’m ok with it tho.”

Then, a month later, Selena made a joke about her single status on TikTok, when she shared a video of herself sitting alone beside two couples engaged in some heavy PDA.

“No, I’m fine. I’m totally fine being single, it’s a real thing, it’s fine,” Selena says before turning the camera around to the couples.

This year, Selena posted a TikTok in June of herself at a soccer game with friends. In the video, Selena yelled to the athletes, “I’m single. I’m just a little high-maintenance. But I’ll love you soooo much.”

Then in July, she posted a TikTok video of her trying out the ‘Why Am I Single’ filter. When the filter gave her the answer, “you have bad taste,” Selena gasped. She captioned the video “Well thats rude Tik Tok.”
