Apple Martin, Gwyneth Paltrow’s oldest child, turns sixteen today. Paltrow shared some sweet sentiments for her daughter with Coldplay singer Chris Martin on Instagram.

“You are the light of my heart, you are pure joy,” she captioned the photos of Martin. “You are wickedly intelligent and you have the best, most dry, most brilliant sense of humor. I have the best time being your mom.”

She praised her daughter’s intelligence, noting that it was unfortunate that she was celebrating her 16th birthday in a pandemic. “I’m sorry you are having this particular birthday during these circumstances, but as always with you, you find the best in everything.”

I can’t believe I’m actually writing these words but… happy sweet sixteen my darling girl. You are the light of my heart, you are pure joy. You are wickedly intelligent and you have the best, most dry, most brilliant sense of humor. I have the best time being your mom. I love our nightly evening chats when I really get to hear what’s on your mind. You work hard to get whatever it is you want to achieve, and you have grit and responsibility in spades. I am so damn lucky to be your mother, you beautiful, kind young woman. Thank you for choosing me. I adore you to the moon and back a zillion times. I’m sorry you are having this particular birthday during these circumstances, but as always with you, you find the best in everything. 💝

This isn’t Martin’s first appearance on her mom’s Instagram page during quarantine – last month, Paltrow posted Apple’s parody of a Goop to-do list. “Make more vagina eggs and candles,” it reads. In this case we’d have to agree with Gwyneth’s opinion that Apple has the “best, most dry, most brilliant sense of humour.”

Paltrow rarely posts photos of her daughter, who does not have a public Instagram account of her own, to her Instagram page. In March 2019, Martin commented on a photo Paltrow posted of the duo skiing reminding her mother of their social media sharing policy. “Mom we have discussed this,” wrote Martin. “You may not post anything without my consent.”

“You can’t even see your face!” Paltrow retorted. We presume the images posted today received full approval.
