O Canada! The finalists for the
LVMH Prize For Young Fashion Designers have been announced – and two are from our home and native land!
Canadians Chris Gelinas and
Thomas Tait are two of the twelve finalists for the uber-prestigious prize, which will give one lucky designer the chance to work for a year in one of the houses in the LVMH stable (oh, and 300,000 euros). Montreal native (but London based) Thomas Tait and New York based (but Canadian born) Chris Gelinas made the final cut after presenting their collections to a panel of superstar industry experts (how would you feel having
Nicolas Ghesquière,
Karl Lagerfeld AND
Raf Simons judge your work?!). Some background on our finalists: Thomas Tait has shown his collections at
London Fashion Week, and is very much about minimalist chic. Chris Gelinas, who previously did stints at Marc Jacobs and Balenciaga, launched his label ‘CG’ last year, which won the 2013 Peroni Young Designer Award. The finalists  return to Paris on May 28th, when the inaugural winner will be announced. Best of luck you two!
