Denim is the ultimate seasonless staple that should be (and probably already is) in everybody’s wardrobe. This season, it’s all about refreshing old-school styles with a modern touch. From cool silhouettes to tonal colour-blocking, here are the three denim trends that we’re coveting this season.
1. The Balloon Silhouette
If you’re looking for an alternative to wide-leg pants, try balloon jeans. The slight curve of the ’80s-inspired silhouette adds volume without overwhelming your shape. Opt for a high-rise style for the ultimate figure-flattering fit, and pair the jeans with a minimal t-shirt and boots combo for maximum impact. Avoid over-styling your outfit to keep the attention on the subtle shape. For a more elevated take, look for sophisticated details like a pleated waist.
2. The High-waisted jean with a twist
Everyone’s talking about the comeback of the low-rise pant from the early aughts but we’re not ready to let go of the ultra-flattering high-waisted jeans just yet. Update this perennial favourite with playful details like sweet retro patchwork or for the bold, a logo down the side of the leg. Not quite ready to commit to leather pants? Go for coated jeans to get the same high-gloss edge with all the comfort of denim. Wear a cropped jacket and torso-hugging bag to emphasize the high-waist even more.
3. The Two-toned jean
Why pick one colour when you can wear both? A contemporary take on the patchwork pant, the two-toned jean is a fun way to add visual interest to your outfit. Go all out with eye-catching colour-blocking – the bigger the contrast between the shades (think light wash against dark wash, or vice versa), the better. For a low-key glam, choose a pair with dark-wash insets and a flared silhouette. This trend is also DIY-friendly and a great way to give a new life to your well-worn vintage denim; just grab two pairs and get creative with different placements and shapes. Style these jeans with a sporty bodysuit and bright heels for a dressed-up, yet casual outfit that works from day to night.
