Nineteen-eighties opulence reared its head on the runway via the era-defining shoulder pad, which is back in an outrageously big way. These exaggerated épaules were spotted at Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler and Saint Laurent, where creative director Anthony Vaccarello pushed them to a new extreme.

The mid-century space-age aesthetic is inspiring filmmakers (see: Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City) and fashion designers alike. Paco Rabanne revisited its iconic 1960s Unwearable Collection, Simone Rocha experimented with a modern medieval-chain-mail fantasy and Courrèges played with minis and full-moon-shaped cut-outs.

Blame Yayoi Kusama—polka dots are the whimsical print of the season. At Chanel, the house’s signature white camellia bloom was strategically dotted on black tweed blazers, while Marni and Valentino also explored the classic black-and-white combo.

Bold and beautiful, fall’s fun faux-fur outerwear has us feeling warm and fuzzy. Brands like Stella McCartney, MSGM, Gucci and Loewe have all introduced some very fluffy technicolour toppers that are sure to keep dopamine dressing going strong throughout the winter.

Loose-fitting trousers are a welcome wardrobe addition for anyone who’s still wary of the return of hard pants. Far from sloppy, this season’s slouchy slacks are giving collegiate skater boy when paired with tailored separates à la Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Ralph Lauren.

Lady Gaga pioneered the movement back in her Fame Monster era, and 14 years later, pants have officially become optional. This season, Miu Miu, Prabal Gurung and Jacquemus all showed that the underwear-as-outerwear trend most definitely has legs.

Gen-Z yellow—as seen on Lapointe’s tailored suiting, which brings a mellow moment to the boardroom—packs a citrus punch that feels fresh for fall. At Burberry, floor-grazing coats in spicy mustard were complemented by matching hot water bottles, and Erdem brought us under the Spanish sun with ruffled shoulders and skirts.

The roaring ’20s are in full swing, and partywear is hogging the spotlight. Glittering garments stole the show at Rick Owens and Michael Kors, where wine-hued sequins shimmered, while Alexander McQueen sent goddesses dripping in shiny fringe down the runway.
