Winter has us spending a lot of time indoors right now. So, might as well use this time to update your space with some of the year’s hottest interior design trends.
Often, what’s trending in fashion can mirror what we’re seeing in home decor. There’s been a shift away from a minimalist, ultra-clean aesthetic to spaces that feel more authentic, colourful and playful.
From drenching an entire room (including the ceiling) with the same bold colour to bringing the outside indoors to layering your bookshelves with lots of novels and vintage trinkets, these are the interior decor trends we’re currently obsessing over.
Art Deco Revival
Art Deco design originated in France in the early 1900s before flourishing in America during the Roaring Twenties. It’s a style that evokes the opulence and glamour of that time: rich jewel tones, bold geometric shapes and luxury materials like marble and shiny brass fixtures.
While our current economic climate may not be as hot as it was back then, Art Deco can provide some playful escapism. It’s a giant leap away from all the neutral palettes and ultra-clean aesthetics (à la Kim Kardashian’s minimalistic mansion) we’ve been overexposed to.
Art Deco is loud, fun and full of interesting shapes and patterns. Not every room in your space needs to be dripping with glam and maximalist touches, but you can add some pizzazz, like a dramatic bar cart or a geometric feature wall, to your space.
Curved Edges
Curved furniture and countertops aren’t new, but their increasing popularity represents a shift away from structure and rigid lines to spaces that feel more fluid and soft. Our brains especially love curved elements in design because they can make us feel safe.
You don’t need to overhaul your home with custom, rounded cabinetry or arched doorways. Instead, opt for comforting pieces sans sharp edges, such as a curved couch, a rounded mirror that’s not a perfect circle, or an oval coffee table.
Bookshelf Wealth
Bookshelf Wealth is 2024’s first big design moment and possibly our favourite home decor trend to emerge out of the depths of TikTok.
The term has racked up millions of views on the popular app and has us hyper-fixating on our shelves for hours. The best part? It has nothing to do with how much money you have in the bank.
Rather, this trend—akin to fashion’s Eclectic Grandpa aesthetic—is all about styling your space with the pieces you already own: the vintage knick-knacks, that framed artwork you saved up for, the bent books you’ve read over and over again. It’s about playing with layers to create a lived-in look that’s authentic to you and your taste.
Colour Drenching
If you want to refresh your space without the headache or financial stress of a renovation, a little colour goes a long way. Or, in the case of colour drenching, a lot of colour can completely transform an entire room.
Toss your painter’s tape to the side; the colour-drenching technique calls for you to lather the same paint colour all over the walls, baseboards, ceiling, door frames… you get it.
It’s a commitment, but the finished product is pretty fab. It can make tiny spaces appear larger and saturate any space with monochromatic warmth — just avoid the floors, okay?
Biophilic *Lite
Biophilic design connects our modern-day spaces with the natural world. After all, nature was the first home decor trend to ever exist for humans.

Today, we spend the majority of our time removed from nature in spaces built entirely out of elements that don’t naturally exist. By creating a fluidity between the outdoors and indoors, biophilic design or organic architecture seeks to reestablish this important relationship.
However, not everyone has the space or funds to install a green roof or an indoor courtyard overflowing with foliage. If your space could use a natural boost, try bringing in materials and textures that mirror what’s in nature, like a reclaimed wood dining table, statement stone pieces, organic cotton, and, of course, lots of (real!) plants.
