There is nothing more entertaining that high-octane action films and drama-loaded series and this summer you got both. Several blockbuster movies and highly-anticpated TV shows are set to hit theatres and streaming platforms, respectively.

From the one everyone’s talking about (Barbie) to the one that promises high-energy action with Gal Gadot in Heart of Stone, the biggest summer films look promising as ever. When Gadot took the stage, at Tudum, Netflix’s global fan event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, fans went wild and rightfully so—the beloved wonder woman will now play an international spy named Rachel Stone and looks like the streamer is setting this up to be a major new franchise.

On the TV side, teen dramas like Never Have I Ever and The Summer I Turned Pretty are all everyone’s talking about. If you’ve watched the previous seasons of these shows, you know it’s got plenty of drama and a whole lotta heart.

Extraction 2

A film gaining momentum due to the high-octane action sequences is Chris Hemsworth’s latest entry, Extraction 2. “This action-packed sequel to Extraction is so massive… we wanted to take it to a place that was unexpected. It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done,” he said when he took the stage to talk about his film at the Netflix Tudum event. He and director Sam Hargrave also announced that a third film is in the works.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

Another high-octane mission follows Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and the IMF team as they must track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, a deadly race around the globe begins.

Barbie

One of the most talked about films this year is undoubtedly Barbie. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film follows Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) who are having the time of their lives in the seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans.

Oppenheimer

Famed filmmaker Christopher Nolan is back with another highly anticipated release. Oppenheimer follows physicist J Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), who works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb. The film also stars Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey, Jr. and Florence Pugh.

Heart of Stone

One of the highly anticipated international espionage thrillers to watch this summer on Netflix is Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan and Bollywood icon Alia Bhatt. The trio debuted the trailer at Tudum, where Gadot said: “This movie is truly incredible. It is intense—there are so many action sequences.” The movie was filmed in many locations around the world, including Portugal, Reykjavík and Northern Italy.

And Just Like That… (Season 2)

Season 2 of And Just Like That… returns this summer. Everyone’s fave John Corbett is officially returning as Aidan to reprise his romance with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker). Candice Bergen will also return as Enid Frick, Carrie’s Vogue editor from the original series.

Platonic

A show thats well-received by both fans and critics alike is Platonic. It follows former best friends (Seth Rogen, Emily Byrne) approaching midlife reconnect after a long rift; the duo’s friendship becomes more consuming and destabilizes their lives.

Never Have I Ever (Season 4)

It’s senior year for Devi and her friends and she has to make important decisions about her future. Devi’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) gets her sights set on Princeton but things don’t go as she planned. Paxton (Darren Barrett) is back and Devi tries to find out what’s happening with Ben Gross (Jarren Lewison) after their intimate encounter in season 3.

Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion

One of the most anticipated shows of the Marvel universe is Secret Invasion. The series stars Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn as Nick Fury and the Skrull Talos, respectively. The series, set in the present day MCU, follows Nick Fury as he learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls. Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, as they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Season 2)

Belly (Lola Tung) is now deep in a love triangle between brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) as she deals with first love, first heartbreak and more during the summer.
