Plus One

Plus One is one of the most underrated romcoms of the last decade—and I don’t mean this as hyperbole at all. So the fact that it will finally be readily available on streaming in Canada is one of the most exciting pieces of pop-culture news this month, both for people who have yet to discover the film’s many delights and for others, like me, who will now get to rewatch it at every opportunity. Maya Erskine and Jack Quaid star as platonic BFFs Alice and Ben agree to be each other’s dates during an endless summer wedding season. It isn’t long before feelings make their pact more complicated than they’d anticipated—duh. February 2

One Day

If One Day—a sweeping romance between Emma and Dexter, who meet on the evening of their university graduation but stay in each other’s lives—sounds familiar, well, that’s because it should. Set on the same date over nearly two decades, the story is adapted from David Nicholls’ popular 2009 novel and has already been seen on screen in 2011 as a notoriously tear-jerking film starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. This time around, it’s a 14-episode series starring The White Lotus’ Leo Woodall and the charming Ambika Mod—and yes, it’s just as tragic, so proceed with caution. February 8

A Killer Paradox

Even if the extent of your Korean TV knowledge is Squid Game, many people on this side of the world are likely familiar with the stars of A Killer Paradox. Korean-Canadian Choi Woo-shik was one of the leads of Parasite, while Son Suk-ku was in the Wachowskis’ cult sci-fi series Sense8—and that’s just the start of their lengthy and impressive resumes. Now, the two have joined forces for this crime thriller, about an accidental killing that turns into a cat-and-mouse hunt between a college student and detective. Consider this a great starting point to further wade into the world of K-dramas—if that’s something you haven’t already done. February 9

Love Is Blind (Season 6)

If you’ve been wondering if Love Is Blind has anything interesting or entertaining left to put on our screens, now’s the time to find out. The reality series is back for a sixth season of ushering couples who have never laid eyes on each other down the aisle, this time taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina. February 14

Players

Would it really be Valentine’s Day without a new romcom to watch? Enter Players, a flick about a group of friends who come up with clever and playful “schemes” to land their next hookup. But when Mack unexpectedly develops real feelings for a man, everything in her tried-and-true playbook is thrown into question. Gina Rodriguez, Tom Ellis, Damon Wayans Jr. and Liza Koshy star. How’s that for your date night plans? February 14

The Vince Staples Show

Rapper Vince Staples is revealing a new side to himself in The Vince Staples Show. The five-episode satirical comedy co-created and stars in the series, which, as the trailer says, depicts “just another day in the life” of the musician. But, it turns out, a (fictionalized) version of a typical day for Staples includes high-stakes crime, mascot brawls and much more. February 15

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender have been waiting for years to erase the memory of the critically panned 2010 live-action film adaptation film of the mega-popular anime-style series. Their moment is finally here with this highly-anticipated new take. The show follows Aang (Gordon Cormier), who possesses the rare potential to master all four elements (water, earth, fire and air), making him the best hope to unite a divided world. Expect to see a cast of newcomers, as well as a few familiar faces, including Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Leung, Arden Cho, Amber Midthunder, Danny Pudi and Canadian Paul Sun-Hyung Lee. February 22

Mea Culpa

If there’s one thing we can count on, it’s that Tyler Perry will always have an addictive new tale headed our way. This time, it’s thriller Mea Culpa, which follows a criminal defense attorney (Kelly Rowland) whose career and life is put at risk when her relationship with a client accused of murder (Trevante Rhodes) becomes a little too personal.
