Heartstopper (Season 2)

Heartstopper—the tender YA series about a group of diverse high schoolers navigating the highs and lows of adolescence—is, clearly, made for younger audiences. But if you, like me, are fully grown and watched the first season anyway, you know that it is so charming and sweet that its target demo does not matter in the slightest. I’m glad it exists for anyone to watch, and I’m sure that will continue with season two, which finds Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) trying to figure out what finally being in a relationship means for them at this stage in their lives.

The Big Nailed It! Baking Challenge

I have a confession: While I completely understand the many winning aspects of the Nicole Byer-hosted competition series Nailed It!, I had to stop watching it years ago because I couldn’t handle watching trainwrecks unfold in the kitchen episode after episode as amateur bakers attempted to accomplish the impossible. That’s why I’m hoping The Big Nailed It! Baking Challenge is more my speed. This time, the spinoff series is giving the home chefs the chance to receive actual training from professionals as they compete for a large cash prize, so fingers crossed that means there are just as many successes as there are goofy slip ups.

Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop

You just need to take a quick peek at Spotify to know that Black women are owning the hip-hop game right now. Ladies First: A Story of Women in Hip-Hop is a perfectly timed four-part docuseries that analyzes the genre’s 50 years, the role women artists have played in shaping it and how they’ve carved out a lane that is totally their own. Queen Latifah, Remy Ma, Da Brat, Latto and Saweetie are just some of the talents who will appear on camera to share their stories.

Painkiller

The opioid crisis is not new grounds for the big or small screen, yet it remains shocking everytime. Adapted from a book and New Yorker article, Painkiller serves as a fictionalized retelling of the events that led to the crisis in the first place, looking through the eyes of the many victims, perpetrators and investigators involved. Uzo Aduba, Matthew Broderick, Taylor Kitsch, Dina Shihabi and West Duchovny star.

Mask Girl

You never know what to expect with viral internet fame. South Korean series Mask Girl follows an office worker (Ko Hyun-jung) who is insecure about her looks. Having long dreamt of being a performer, the woman puts on a mask, starts making online content and, suddenly, becomes an internet sensation. But any happiness is short lived—somehow getting wrapped up in a series of potential crimes will make sure of that.

You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah

Adam Sandler’s latest comedy is a family affair—You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah also stars his wife, Jackie, and their daughters, Sunny and Sadie. The flick follows lifelong BFFs Stacy (Sunny Sandler) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine) who have always dreamed of throwing unforgettable bat mitzvahs together. But when a boy —and a slew of other teenage drama—comes between them, their dream gets further and further out of reach. Idina Menzel and Luis Guzmán also star.

Choose Love

We all love romcoms (don’t tell me otherwise), but what about choose-your-own-adventure romcoms? Choose Love is Netflix’s first-ever interactive romantic comedy, and follows Cami, a recording engineer who seemingly has a picture-perfect life, but isn’t so sure if the path she’s on is right for her. As Cami is forced to face different decisions about life and love, viewers will be prompted to make those choices for her, leading to multiple possible outcomes and endings. Laura Marano, Scott Michael Foster, Avan Jogia and Jordi Webber star.

One Piece

I have not personally consumed much manga or anime, but many of my friends have—which is how I know that a live-action adaptation of One Piece is a pretty big deal. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s series—Japan’s highest-selling manga ever—the show centres around the Straw Hat Pirates as they explore lands and seas, and fight off dangerous rivals on their quest to discover a fabled treasure.
