I’m Listening To: Noah Gundersen’s ‘Ledges’
Noah Gundersen’s first full length album ‘Ledges’ is pretty much the perfect soundtrack to this time of year: stripped back, melancholy folk that pairs perfectly with February’s bleakness (and no, this has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day tomorrow).
I loved Gundersen’s EP’s, and I’m happy to say he hasn’t gone the way of Mumford – not a banjo to be heard on this album, just breath-taking harmonies, and some pretty stellar writing. There’s a fabulous, understated drama to all of the album’s songs (this man knows how to work a crescendo), a bit like if the Killers ever grew beards and went acoustic.
NOTE: I see the single from this album, ‘Poor Man’s Son’, is the free track of the week on iTunes! (But like, I totally liked him before, okay?)
