While many celebrities have been vocal about the need to follow COVID-19 prevention strategies, like social distancing, this adorable new celebrity PSA reminds us how important the simple task of hand washing is during the coronavirus pandemic.

Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s eldest daughter, appeared on Bey’s mom, Tina Knowles’, Instagram page this weekend with a quick DIY. “My brilliant granddaughter Blue did this experiment to show how washing your hands fights the virus . ❤️🙏🏾,” Knowles captioned the video.

The eight-year-old demonstrated why hand washing matters by dipping her finger into some soap and then putting it in a bowl of water with pepper in it, symbolizing “coronavirus, or any virus.” After placing her finger in the centre of the bowl, the pepper “virus” moves away from her hand to the edge of the bowl.

“This is why it’s very important to wash your hands,” explains Blue. “‘Cause if you wash your hands, your hands will stay clean, but if you keep your hands dirty, you might get sick.”

Beyoncé also took this weekend as an opportunity to educate the public. She appeared on the One World: Together At Home live concert event on Saturday with a message about the unjust racial implications of coronavirus.

“Black Americans disproportionately belong to these essential parts of the workforce that do not have the luxury of working from home,” said Beyoncé. “And African American communities at large have been severely affected in this crisis. Those with pre-existing conditions are at an even higher risk. This virus is killing black people at an alarmingly high rate here in America. A recent report from my home city, Houston, Texas, showed that of COVID-19 deaths within Houston city limits, 57 percent of fatal cases are African-American. Please protect yourselves. We are one family and we need you; we need your voices, your abilities, and your strength all over this world.”

As Blue said: “I hope you guys are staying safe, wash your hands extra, and please stay at home. Love y’all, bye.”
