“Lesa Hannah has very strong opinions on beauty products, both by nature of her job (she’s ELLE Canada’s beauty director) but also because she is incredibly discerning. I’ve seen her dismiss many, many makeup and skincare items, which made me want to know all the ones she truly loves and uses regularly. Voila: Her entire arsenal of skincare, makeup and body products (plus derm treatments), described in her own words.” – Victoria DiPlacido, digital director

MORNING

“In the mornings I just rinse with water, followed by Vitamin C (I’ve used everything from Skinceuticals to Alumier MD) and Omorovicza Moisture Mist, which is my go-to mist in the winter. I press that in and then use Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream on top of cheeks and around my eyes. I’ve been using this cream since September and have not witnessed any significant changes to my skin (in fact it made my forehead bumpy) so I don’t get why so many people lost their minds over it. It does leave a nice gleam, and hydrates but that’s about it. Beautycounter Dew Skin is my daily sunscreen. It’s zinc oxide and tinted and I would love it if it was higher than SPF 20. It’s good enough for winter but in the summer, I wear a hat for added protection.”

NIGHT

“At night, I use a balm to wash my face. Lately I’ve been using Ren’s new Jelly Oil Cleanser, but I also love Naturopathica Manuka Honey Cleansing Balm and Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm. I apply on dry skin and then remove with a warm washcloth, and add extra pressure around my nose and on my chin. Sometimes I follow that up with a milk cleanser – I like Beautycounter, Dr. Hauschka and Biologique Recherche, but I don’t feel that second cleanse is as necessary as it is in the summer. Moisture Mist is next and the Bader cream in the same spots as I do in the morning. Then it really depends on how I feel. Sometimes I put an acid like Omorovicza Midnight Radiance Mask, Biologique Recherche P50 or Drunk Elephant TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum on my chin, which always has tiny blackheads and is the only area on my face where I break out. When I’m in the mood, I pat an oil on top of everything – I love ones by Odacite.”

MAKEUP

“After Dew Skin, I apply concealer around my eyes. I recently ran out of RMS UnCoverUp so I’ve been using their foundation in its place. I also like the one by Hynt Beauty. I curl my lashes with Surratt Lash Curler but no mascara. I got tired of how it would always be smudged under my eyes by mid-morning as well as removing it at night (those stringy bits inside your eye are the worst). If on a rare occasion I do wear it, I like Chanel Le Volume and Westman Atelier. If I am feeling extra motivated, I will do a cat eye. I recently bought – yes I paid for it  – Ilia Clean Line Liquid Eyeliner but am kind of annoyed at how all the gold has worn off the cap and gets all over my fingers when I use it. I brush my brows and fill them in a little with Anastasia Brow Powder Duo. I love cream blush and have been using NudeStix Nudies Bloom All Over Dewy Color in Cherry Blossom Babe. I wish they made a shade in more of a berry tone. So sometimes I use my Rodin Lipstick in Billie on the Bike instead. On occasion I will dab Chanel Baume Essential in Transparent on top of cheeks for extra shine. On my lips, it’s all about Bite. I use Agave Lip Mask, then fill them in with their lip pencil which has been discontinued. (I bought five before they were gone forever). I currently wear their Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon in Acai Smash every day.”

BODY

“I love Weleda body washes, specifically Rose, Seabuckthorn and Citrus (so good on sticky summer days). L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil is also glorious. Lotion is only required in winter and only on my legs and butt – if I skip this step they tend to feel itchy and uncomfortable. Sangre de Fruta Body Cream is beyond; the texture is lovingly whipped by hand. I’m also partial to dry oils. I like Detox Mode and Bastide. I also love Jao Goe Body Oil which is in a tube and comes out like a cream and smells like monoi. So good, but expensive. My hands are a crusty nightmare thanks to eczema so I’m never without Weleda Skin Food (the light version does not cut it) and lately I’ve been using Lano’s Golden Dry Skin Salve and 101 Ointment for the extremely parched and flaky parts. The vegans of the world can rip lanolin out of my cold, dead (yet supple) hands.”

TREATMENTS

“I adore facials and if there is LED or microcurrent involved, even better. I’ve never tried Botox but got filler once and liked it because it was so subtle (thank you Dr. Bertucci). I’ve also had Ulthera and lovvvvved the result. If I had the budget – my treatment was complimentary because I wrote about it – I would get it again so that I never have a jawline like Mitch McConnell. If you want to get it, see Chantal at Clarity Medspa and tell her I sent you.”
