The hottest nail trends for Fall 2014
PUT THE STENCIL SET DOWN
Nail art has moved on; have you? “We’re heading away from nail art and in the direction of gorgeous colour—the kinds of shades that inspire women to stop you and ask what you’re wearing and where you got it,” says Marian Newman, key nail artist for M.A.C.
Nail trends are now divided into two categories: texture and colour. Whether you’re wearing colour or have bare nails, experiment with finish, be it matte, high shine or opalescent. The best colours to have a major bonding moment with? Oxblood, blackened reds and deep jewel tones. Sophisticated and edgy are not mutually exclusive. See: Paul Smith, Alexis Mabille, Max Mara, Julien Macdonald, Nanette Lepore and Cushnie et Ochs.
WHEN IN DOUBT, GO NAKED
Nudes are the new classic. Manicurist Michelle Saunders, who created a “tomboy beige” manicure at Alexander Wang, says that nudes will always be in style. Calling it “a really severe manicure,” Saunders used a “bite” of feminine sheer-pink polish over a matte topcoat to give an industrial feel to nails. See: Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferretti, Marc Jacobs, Carolina Herrera, Theory, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang and Donna Karan.
