With every change in season there comes a whole new wave of fashion trends. Oversized trench coats and Mary Janes have found their way back into our closets this fall, and yes, we’re still contemplating the return of ballet flats, but take it from us: A fresh set of nails is just as essential to complete any outfit.

This season, the biggest nail trends are all about embracing classic autumnal shades like rich chocolate brown and deep cherry red. And thanks to a summer of Barbie, we can also expect to see some pops of pink in the mix—especially when it comes to creative nail art.

Ready for some inspo? Ahead, we’ve rounded up five of our absolute favourite nail looks for fall.

Tortoiseshell Nails

The hashtag “tortoise shell nails” has accumulated over six million views on TikTok, and we can’t argue with those stats. The textured design is a fall staple for a reason: it’s fun and playful while still giving off a sophisticated feel. Create this classic look by starting with a jelly base and layering an orange-brown shade on top, then adding a black spotted design with a fine-tipped brush to create a speckled pattern.

Chocolate Glazed Nails

Inspired by last year’s mega-viral glazed donut look, this shimmery chocolate nail colour is a more elegant take on the trend. Try a coat of OPI Nail Lacquer in Linger Over Coffee to create the Hailey Bieber-approved look at home sans the chrome powder.

Aura Nails

Aura nails—spotted on celebs like Madelyn Cline, Emma Chamberlain and Megan Fox—involves softly swirling multiple shades together to create an orb-like effect. We love the ultra-colourful pink and pastel combos, but for something a little more moody, try pairing darker colours like forest green, violet or burgundy with jet black.

Cherry Mocha nails

We can’t think of a colour more perfect for the season than cherry-chocolate polish. Rich and elegant, it’s an easy way to hop on the “cherry cola” hair colour trend without a trip to your stylist. Try a coat or two of OPI’s Malaga Wine or Essie Bordeaux to get the look.

For a seasonally appropriate take on a year-round classic, opt for a crimson, navy or chocolate brown French mani in place of traditional white tips. We love the ultra-glossy french Mani Madison Beer wore last year, which has a subtle later of chrome for a light-catching finish.
