Astrology has had a heavy influence on the fashion and beauty industries in recent years. However, for one particular designer, the stars and their symbols have always been more than a design, it was her life’s inspiration.
Gabrielle Chanel was born under the 5th sign of the zodiac and ruled by the mighty lion. Watching over her since the day she was born, the lion acted as a personal talisman throughout Gabrielle’s life.
The animal became the proud protector of her apartment on Rue Cambon in Paris, guardian of her domain. Whether it was the sculptures in her home or the tweed suit buttons and clasps of her bags embossed with a lion’s head, the designer made sure to always keep the lion close by.
Today, CHANEL fragrances introduces ‘Le Lion de CHANEL’, as the latest addition to the Les Exclusifs de CHANEL collection.
Olivier Polge, CHANEL’s house perfumer and the man behind the majestic scent explained he “was much more interested in the emblematic Chanel lion than the animal [itself]”. Acting as a tribute to the significance the feline holds for both the designer and the house, the fragrance is inspired by the lion but it is not about the wild animal, rather it is a symbol of its power and elegance. A character incarnated by the regal lion that does not need to roar to command respect.
Notes of sparkling citrus bring an essential burst to the fragrance, followed by the warmth of its oriental imprint. Its heart of citrus labdanum, a lively resin with animal notes, intertwines with Madagascar vanilla leaving a lingering scent on the skin. The rich leather-like amber is wrapped in creamy sandalwood and musky raw patchouli. The confidence of a lion with the elegance of CHANEL.
This refined scent promises to capture the power, grace and bravery that the lion symbolized for Gabrielle Chanel. As she once said, “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” This fragrance is nothing short of different and definitely irreplaceable.
