Byeeeeee Ultra Violet. Pantone has announced its 2019 Colour of the Year and it’s Living Coral.
The colour gurus at the Pantone Color Institute describe the colour as, “an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.” In other words, after what seems like a very long year, this energizing and vivid colour might just be the pick-me-up we all need in 2019.
The easiest ways to do that? Incorporating the colour in your home and wardrobe. ELLE Canada’s fashion and market editor Elaine Jyll Regio suggests looking for “colour-blocked pieces that have a pop of coral — think seaside stripes in coral, baby pink, white and pumpkin,” she says.
If you’re worried that the shade may be too precious for you, “try looking for lightweight anoraks for a sporty or utilitarian feel,” adds Regio. And, if you want to dip your toe into the trend, “a fail-safe approach to experimenting with any new colour is, of course, accessories,” she says. “Anything that finishes off a look like scarves, beaded jewellery and fun shoes like Converse.”
Toronto-based interior designer Montana Labelle also recommends taking baby steps when it comes to this bright shade. “Perhaps some pillows, a piece of artwork or a coffee table accessory — while keeping the rest of the space neutral and restrained,” she says. Labelle suggests using the colour with a black, white and camel colour palette. “It would also look great with a bleached white oak and tons of whites and creams with just a tiny hit of this colour for a real punch,” she says.
