6 sustainable brands we're loving right now

Aday Recycled Polyester Jacket

A good jacket can take any outfit from “meh” to memorable. Aday’s boxy cropped topper is made from 41 plastic bottles, plus the NYC-based brand crafts all of its timeless staples from technical fabrics that have been designed to last and last. (Aday recycled-polyester and elastane jacket, $192, thisisaday.com)

Kotn T-shirt with non-toxic dyes

A soft white T-shirt goes with everything. Canadian brand Kotn makes effortless basics using Egyptian cotton and non-toxic dyes. So far, the brand has built two schools in Egypt’s Nile River Delta and raised funds to construct two more. (Kotn cotton-jersey T-shirt, $30, kotn.com)

Khokho Grass-Woven Bag

The straw-bag trend is going strong. Khokho creates its structured baskets in Swaziland using ancient artisanal techniques and gives local bag weavers a cut of the profits. (Khokho woven-lutindzi-grass, leather, suede and horn minaudière, $787, khokhocollection.com)

Outland Low-Water Denim

Outland’s sustainable, low-water denim is duchess-approved. After Meghan Markle wore the Aussie brand’s jeans seven (!) times during the 2018 royal tour, the uptick in demand allowed the company to hire 46 new seamstresses. It also employs Cambodian women who have escaped or been rescued from the human-trafficking industry. (Outland Denim organic-cotton and elastane denim jeans, $245, outlanddenim.ca)

Yatay Vegan Sneakers

Eco-friendly sneakerheads, rejoice: Italian label Yatay makes its minimalist vegan kicks using organic hemp and recycled polyester. It has also partnered with the non-profit One Tree Planted: Each pair of shoes sold means one new tree in a deforested area. (Yatay recycled-raw-material fabric and biopolyol sneakers with organic-cotton laces, $360, yatayatay.com)

Mercury-Free Pili Restrepo Gold Bracelet

Pili Restrepo creates boho-luxe jewellery in New York using responsibly sourced metals and gems. The brand also donates a portion of the profits to anti-pollution organization Pure Earth. (Pili Restrepo 14-karat mercury-free gold and carnelian-cabochon bracelet, $6,690, pilirestrepo.com)
