5 Fresh Outfit Ideas to Jumpstart Your Spring Wardrobe
A+ looks that require little thought.
by : Jillian Vieira- Apr 23rd, 2020
Spring is the prime time for fashion, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise (I’m looking at you, fall fanatics). Ascending hems, lighter knits, actually fashionable outerwear – there’s a lot to get excited about. Follow these simple style formulas – just three pieces that might already be in your closet – to fire up the springtime feels.
The Formula: Lime Blazer + Linen Pants + Beachy Necklaces
Why it’s fresh: Imbued with breezy insouciance, this relaxed outfit is the very embodiment of a week-long vacation in Nantucket. Take a washed out blazer, go bare underneath (why not – it’s not like you’re going anywhere for the moment) and combine it with a pair of linen slacks for some sunshine-in-a-bottle vibes. A collection of teensy necklaces (we like petite pearls) elevates the look from everyday to virtual cocktail hour ready.
The Formula: Grandpa Sweater + Tennis Skirt + Sensible Shoes
Why it’s fresh: Those wooly sweaters have gotten a lot of mileage over the winter months, but so long as the temps linger in that in-between state (you know, when they say it’s 15 degrees but it feels a whole lot colder), their glory days aren’t quite over. Pairing one with a crisp white tennis skirt and some easy walking Mary Janes is to bestow it with a much-deserved swan song.
The Formula: Oversized Tee + Thin Hoodie + Baggy Jeans

Why it’s fresh: No doubt you have a massive tee stashed in your closet, one that’s relegated to cleaning and wandering around the house. Give it new life with a relaxed white hoodie worn underneath (hood pulled out the back) and a pair of baggy, ’90s-era jeans. You’ll take on that skater steeze even if your coordination skills leave something to be desired.
The Formula: Slinky Tank + Leather Bermuda Shorts + Chai-Coloured Sandals
Why it’s fresh: So colour isn’t really your thing – we got you. Try out this black-on-black look that gets its newness from touchable texture. The billow-y, buttery quality of leather bermuda shorts (faux works, too!) meets a fitted, ribbed tank for a gorge visual contrast. And because a true neutral shouldn’t deter you, try on these sand-coloured sandals for size, which bring about a polished element to the outfit.
The Formula: Chambray Shirt + Acid-Wash Skirt + White Boots

Why it’s fresh: Fearful of the Canadian tuxedo? The beauty of this version comes from deliberate contrast and perfectly tailored silhouettes. Look closely: the denim blues are related, but not the same (it’s all in the wash), and the chambray-shirt-plus-denim-skirt combo finds a happy medium between clingy and roomy. The final essential element are some stark white boots, which act as a visual palette cleanser for all that denim.
