Lusting for Lanvin

By Lara Ceroni
When we first spotted Lanvin’s fuchsia pom-pom necklace on
net-a-porter.com,the hefty $1,700 price tag did very little to sway our enthusiasm.  Admittedly, we (or, by “we” should I say I) made the most of a recent one-hour lunch break to swing by American Apparel – the best purveyor of white tee’s and tanks – to stock up on the blank canvas that would make this piece of art shine. Then reality hit.
Our shopping lists already include
this,
that, and the
other. Could a piece from this storied French house be in our wardrobe’s future? Really? The answer? No. Why? Because. Because, beyond the necklace lies many more obsessions that will weigh equally as heavy on our VISA’s. The new season awaits us;
Fall 2010 is honouring fashion’s most-memorable moments: Think of a buttery
Hermès camel coat,
Phoebe Philo’s minimalist LBD’s and
Missoni’s unmistakable knits. So what to do? Find the next best thing, of course. Enter
Charlotte Hosten. Many of you may not have heard of this Montreal-based jewelry designer before now, so consider yourself in the know. Her handmade accessories (in particular the Lanvin-inspired one we’re loving above) gives dear Alber a serious run for his Euro; and at a fraction of the cost, hey, why not buy two? (Charlotte Hosten White Classic silk necklace, $165.00. Available at:
www.charlottehosten.com).
