When I walked into the bright corner room at the swanky new Shangri La Hotel in Toronto to view the Swarovski TIFF pop-up jewellery suite, I was enveloped in crystals. The piece that caught my eye was the Stardust Galaxy vest – part of Swarovski’s Fall/Winter 2012-13 collection – that looked like a bejeweled arachnid wrapped around the mannequin. The 150,000-stone quartz rutile tourmaline and a Bermuda Blue crystal was
hand embroidered in a painstaking 140 hours. I have to say that my first thought was, "how do you even wear that thing?" But really, who cares? It’s art and it is out-of-this-world beautiful.
