Last night at a special screening at the Whistler Film Festival, we proudly announced the winner of the first-ever ELLE Canada Fashion Film Competition: "Fashion Fades" by Ben Reyes.

As one of our judges, Robert Ott, the chair of the School of Fashion at Ryerson University, put it: "Ben was able to explore a surprisingly succinct yet complex narrative around romance, class, style and urbanism."

Fellow judge Noreen Flanagan—and editor-in-chief of ELLE Canada—concurred. "I was impressed that Ben could tell such a charming—and universal–story in two minutes or less. Who doesn’t want to be noticed by the object of his or her fancy? And, everyone (even a sweet busker boy) appreciates the role of fashion in making that happen."

Special thanks to Robert, Noreen and our other esteemed judges: Paul Gratton (director of programming, Whistler Film Festival), Treana Peake (designer, Obakki) and Liane Balaban (actress).

Stay tuned for our profiles of all three finalists and for more details on next year’s competition!
