Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a big announcement yesterday: They are expecting their second child. This news came on Valentine’s Day, and it turns out that particular date is significant for the royal family. On Valentine’s Day 37 years ago, Princess Diana and Prince Charles announced they were expecting their second child and that Prince William would be a big brother. That baby, of course, was Prince Harry.

Diana appeared on the cover of The Telegraph with news that she was expecting her second baby. He was born on September 15, 1984.

“We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,” a spokesperson for the couple tweeted. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.” The announcement did not include Meghan’s due date.

Meghan and Harry didn’t personally comment about this connection to Diana, but royal experts noticed it immediately.

“Archie’s going to be a big brother. And what timing! On Valentine’s Day 37 years ago Princess Diana and Prince Charles announced they were expecting Harry,” wrote Elizabeth Holmes, author of “HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style.”

ITV New Royal Editor Chris Ship tweeted that Harry’s family—meaning, “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales and the entire family” are “‘delighted’ by Harry and Meghan’s news and they wish them well.”

Ship added that the royal family learned the news shortly before Meghan and Harry confirmed it to the rest of the world.
