10 things to know about George Clooney’s wedding
George Clooney is married! (But you knew that already). Here are 10 essential factoids about
George and Ama’s big fat Venetian wedding: 1.
It was more like a wedding weekend: Festivities began on Friday, and included umpteen brunches, dinners, and of course, bellinis at Harry Bar. 2.
Their preferred mode of transport was water taxi: It was hard to miss it when the wedding party was on the move. They very publicly zipped along Venice’s famous canals in small speedboats, George and Amal always riding in a vessel called "Amore". Aww.
Accomodations were swank: Clooney, Alamuddin and all their guests stayed at the 5 star Cipriani Hotel, which has long been George’s fave hangout in Venice (he even created some of their signature cocktails!. 4.
The guest list was seriously A-list: When you’re Hollywood’s ex-most eligible bachelor, you’ve made some friends in your time, and the buds who made the trip to Italy included Matt Damon, Anna Wintour, Bill Murray, Cindy Crawford, and Emily Blunt. 5.
It was exactly a "secret" wedding: Despite insisting they were planning something low-key and intimate, the Clooney-Alamuddin nuptials were quite the spectacle, apparently choreographed down to the last second for maximum exposure (ie: parading down the Grand Canal, aka Venice’s Times Square, in a flotilla, waving to the crowds all the way). 6.
They wrote their own vows: The "white wedding portion" of the festivities happened on Saturday night (underneath an arbour of imported roses, FYI) at the Aman Canal Grande Hotel. It lasted 18 minutes, and featured promises penned by the bride and groom themselves. There was also a string orchestra, jazz trio and a pianist. 7.
They were a little cheesy: Their wedding song was Nat King Cole’s "When I Fall In Love". 8.
They brunched: The morning after, George (in a gray suit) and Amal, in a white lace dress, hosted an intimate pool party breakfast at the Cipriani. 9.
They had a second wedding: Under Italian law, none of this was official until it was registered at City Hall, which the pair did on Monday. 10.
Amal’s dresses: It was also a fashion marathon for the human rights lawyer—her actual wedding dress was a flower-embroidered, long sleeved but short skirted Oscar de la Renta gown. For the civil ceremony Monday, she wore a divine custom cream pantsuit by Stella McCartney. In between, she wore Alexander McQueen, Dolce and Gabbana, and Giambattista Valli.
