With spring’s arrival comes the inevitable closet clean-out. When you’re deciding which pieces to purge from your collection and which to buy, let the runways be your guide. For their Spring 2024 collections, designers balanced whimsy and utility. On the catwalks last fall, vibrant colour palettes and hyper-feminine styles mingled with seasonal mainstays and structural silhouettes. Now it’s finally time to store away your winter knits to make room for those coveted Spring pieces.
Read on for our favourite spring 2024 fashion trends, and where you can shop them.
BLOW HOT AND COLD
Red may be fashion’s hot favourite of 2024, but on the Spring runways, a refreshing rival emerged: blue. The cold snap could be felt on the catwalks of Givenchy, Proenza Schouler and Prada last fall. And while you might find yourself torn between these contrasting hues, who says you can’t have both? Fight fire with ice this season à la Feben and Fendi.
LOW PROFILE
Thank balletcore for bringing flat footwear back into fashion’s good graces. This season, take inspiration from designers’ Spring collections and lay low with ballet flats—favoured by the likes of Stella McCartney and Loewe—or kitten heels, featured on the catwalks of Gucci and Prada. Another heelless slipper to come out of exile? The humble flip flop. Pair it with a flowy frock (as seen on the Chanel runway) for that effortless beach-day-to-night-out look.
HOOKED ON CROCHET
A perennial favourite, the crochet dress is a balmy weather no-brainer. Designers like JW Anderson, Coach and Frederick Anderson gave the technique top billing on the Spring runways, sending intricate and sheer creations down the catwalk. Meanwhile, over at Moschino, the granny square came out of retirement in the form of body-hugging skirts. If you plan to try out the trend, consider incorporating a woven bag to bring it all together.

MAJOR SHORTCUTS
Fans of the micro-mini can now try out another trend that flirts with sartorial danger: hotpants. The garment may have gotten a leg up thanks to celebrities like Kristen Stewart and Sydney Sweeney, but these tiny trunks have a storied past. After their fall from fashion’s favour in the ‘70s, the thigh-high bottoms are back, as seen on the Spring runways of Tom Ford, Gucci and Chloé. There’s no wrong answer when it comes to styling hotpants, but if you need some extra security, we recommend adding tights or a sheer skirt.
DROP OUT
In line with the low-rise revival, drop waist gowns were a mainstay on the Spring runways. The style features a waistline that is situated at the hips, giving the illusion of height. And while designers like Molly Goddard, Jil Sander and Proenza Schouler gave the silhouette a more feminine treatment, Burberry’s show saw the house’s iconic trench belted well below the waist.
