Everybody's Buying These 4 Home Decor Trends Right Now, According To Etsy

Considering the last year, it’s not hard to wonder why people sidelined their sartorial budgets in favour of interiors—after our lounge rooms became our office spaces and our bedrooms our sanctuaries. If there was one saving grace, it was putting in the well deserved time and effort into our home decor, making our spaces truly ours, whether it be from warm and inviting natural stones, to playful and quirky accessories that added a modern touch. Yes, the past several months of trends have had the world playing more than ever before with what makes their spaces unique.
Where have most been turning to for their newfound treasures? Etsy, of course. The online destination has released its 2021 home decor picks based on customer search history, and of course it spans a wide variety of trends.
Below, discover this year’s top design trends to continue experimenting in your space—from travertine to eucalyptus showers.
Wavy, Squiggly & Curvy Decor
Just take one look at Gigi Hadid and Elsa Hosk’s New York apartments and it should come as no surprise that quirky furniture and home accessories are most favoured in the wavy, squiggly and curvy form this year, with vases, wall art and even mirrors taking hold of the trend. Etsy saw a massive increase in searches for wavy candles—28,236% to be exact—and a 5,296% increase in searches for wavy mirrors. We don’t sense this takeover dying down anytime soon.

Travertine
While marble might have dominated the home space for decades, it’s more durable, sustainable counterpart is taking center stage in 2021: travertine. Searches for the classic ’80s material were up 361% on Etsy, with both modern recreations and vintage finds adding a chic edge to the home—which came in the form of everything from statement tables to cutting boards.

Checkered Prints
It may be the homeware world’s answer to dopamine dressing, but you couldn’t scroll past an interior shot on Instagram over the past several months without spotting a checkered interior. Bath and beach towels, coasters and pillows—in an array of blues, reds and purples—dominated the home and living category on Etsy, seeing a 889% jump in searches.

The Home Sanctuary
Products that were used to create a home sanctuary were, and remain, among the year’s biggest interior trends. There were increases in eucalyptus shower bundles (I need this ASAP), bath caddies (a must!) and waffle towels (because, it’s all about the aesthetic). And you may have thought the fiddle leaf fig was all the rage, Etsy recorded an influx in searches for olive trees.
