Leon Bridges
Even the most cynical Miranda will find her heart growing three sizes while listening to singer-songwriter Leon Bridges. Luckily for (some) Canadians, he’s bringing his talents to Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal (September 16, 27 and 28, respectively) on his Good Thing Tour.
Attrape-Rêves
If we could bottle a lazy Saturday in bed with 300-thread-count-Egyptian-cotton sheets and Ryan Gosling, we would imagine it will smell exactly like Louis Vuitton's latest scent, Attrape-Rêves. (The name translates to "dream catcher," so…) The notes? A bouquet of African cocoa flower, ginger, bergamot and lychee. Louis Vuitton Attrape-Rêves Eau de Parfum Spray ($240 for 100 mL).
Stitched
Okay, we may have the slightest bias, but if you’re going to watch anything on TV this fall, it should be fashion-design competition Stitched, starring ELLE Canada editor-in-chief Vanessa Craft. She, stylist Joe Zee and model/host Kim Cloutier have one very chic mission: to discover the next big designers. Watch your back, Karl. (Sunday nights on Slice)
I'm Afraid Of Men
Anyone who has ever looked behind them when walking at night, avoided eye contact with strangers or wiped off a lipstick for being too bold—so, all of us-—should read this mini-manifesto from trans artist Vivek Shraya. I’m Afraid of Men ($17.95, at indigo.chapters.ca)
Anthropocene
Leonardo DiCaprio made caring about the environment sexy; now the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario are making it beautiful. Opening on September 28, Anthropocene features the works of Canadian artists Edward Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier. The multidisciplinary show serves as a call to action by exploring the devastating impact humans have had on the planet.
The Endings: Photographic Stories of Love, Loss, Heartbreak, and Beginning Again
We deal with breakups with a McNugget combo (the nine-piece, obvi) and a Friends marathon. Photog Caitlin Cronenberg and art director Jessica Ennis found a more productive—and
pretty—approach: They directed 28 celebs in breakup tableaux, some even inspired by their own lives. The Endings: Photographic Stories of Love, Loss, Heartbreak, and Beginning Again ($42.95, at indigo.chapters.ca)
Southbrook Vineyards Skin Fermented White 2017
Show off for friends—and the sommelier—by ordering orange wine. Its peach hue (c/o a unique fermentation process) makes it just as ’grammable as rosé, but its flavour is more robust. Southbrook Vineyards Skin Fermented White 2017 ($29.95, southbrook.com)
The Interior Design Show Vancouver
The Interior Design Show Vancouver (September 20 to 23) is a Pinterest board come to life for home-decor buffs. Come for inspo for your dream walk-in closet; stay for the keynote speech by celeb designer Karim Rashid.
Cult Gaia Earrings
Earlobes just wanna have fun. Indulge them with the earrings version of Cult Gaia’s beloved bamboo purse, the Ark bag. Bamboo and gold-plated-sterling-silver earrings, Cult Gaia ($130, cultgaia.com)
Cardamom Latte
Move over PSL, we have a new fall go-to at Starbucks. The brand's new, exclusive-to-Canada cardamom latte, available September 6, is infused with cardamom-spiced sugar for just the right amount of sweetness, while the spice makes it reminiscent of a chai latte. Bonus: you can customize it with the milk of your choosing (it tastes just as good with almond milk) and get it iced if you refuse to transition to hot beverages until it’s actually sweater weather.
Nobody Cares
No worries if you burst out loud laughing on the subway while reading writer Anne T. Donahue’s memoir because…Nobody Cares. Her collection of personal essays about work, failure, feminism and her love for Leonardo DiCaprio is witty, frank and so relatable that you’ll feel more like you’re chatting with your BFF than reading a book.
