Espresso
Espresso is prepared with 7 grams of coffee and 30 to 40 ml of water. Has a dense foam – called the crema – which should be light brown and slightly striated.
Ristretto – Short Espresso
Espresso prepared with 7 grams of coffee and 20 to 25 ml of water. A more intense flavour than espresso.
Lungo – Long Espresso
Espresso prepared with 7 grams of coffee and 60 ml of water. The flavour is slightly more bitter than espresso.
Doppio – Double Espresso
Espresso prepared with 14 grams of coffee and 60 to 80 ml of water.
Cappuccino
Coffee consisting of one-third espresso, one-third milk and one-third milk froth.
Americano – American
Espresso to which hot water is added to dilute the coffee’s strong taste.
Macchiato
Espresso topped with a layer of steamed milk.
Caffè Latte – Café au Lait
Half espresso – double or long – half steamed milk.
Latte Macchiato
Espresso poured into hot milk and milk froth. The coffee lies between the milk and froth — the ingredients stack without getting mixing up. It is served in a glass to appreciate its appearance.
Caffè Con Panna
Short espresso topped with a layer of whipped cream.
Caffè Mocha – Café Mocha
A mix of espresso, steamed milk and cocoa topped with whipped cream sprinkled with chocolate.
