New year, new job—actually, jobs—for Meghan Markle!
The Duchess of Sussex has just revealed her first solo royal patronages, which will be the focus of her charitable and humanitarian work, and there are four of them—all dealing with issues the mom-to-be is passionate about.
Queen Elizabeth has passed two of her long-held patronages onto her granddaughter-in-law: The National Theatre (fitting for the former actress!) and The Association of Commonwealth Universities, in support of more accessible education across Commonwealth countries. Meghan has also become patron of Smart Works, a charity that works with unemployed and vulnerable women to help them regain the skills and confidence to return to work, and Mayhew, which supports animal rescue services.
"The Duchess is delighted to become Patron of both national and grassroots organizations that are part of the fabric of the UK, and is very much looking forward to working with them to bring wider public attention to their causes," Kensington Palace said in a statement this morning. "Her Royal Highness feels she can use her position to focus attention on, and make a particular difference to these organizations and, more widely, the sectors they each represent."

Today, to kick off her new patronages, Meghan visited Smart Works HQ to meet with volunteers and women who use the service, and even helped one woman style an outfit for a job interview. For the outing, Meghan wore a maternity dress by Hatch from Shopbop and an Oscar de la Renta coat.
Apart from her new positions with these four organizations, Meghan will continue her work with The Royal Foundation, of which she is joint Patron alongside Harry, Will and Kate.
