My Top 10 Beauty Products for February
Every month, our beauty director Théo Dupuis-Carbonneau tells us about the products that have earned a spot in her daily routine, whether they just launched or were recently (re)discovered.

They’re Real! Magnet Extreme Lengthening Mascara, Benefit Cosmetics
I was already a fan of the original formula of Benefit Cosmetics’ They’re Real! Mascara – in fact, I have a soft spot for all of this brand’s mascaras! – but this new edition is absolutely breathtaking. The secret? A magnet found in the brush’s core that is in the process of being patented. It lifts lashes while spreading the magnetic and hyper-pigmented formula beyond your natural length, without turning stiff or flaky. Best of all? You can add as many layers as you want to get the intensity you crave, without ever creating lumps. Genius!
$36
Glowscreen FPS 40, Supergoop!
I’ve been impatiently awaiting this sunscreen since it launched south of the border last year. Supergoop! is known for ingenious products that fit naturally into your daily beauty routine – because yes, we should all be shielding our skin from UV rays every day, in winter as well as summer. Its super-light formula, slightly tinted and a little pearly, applies like a charm and leaves skin pleasantly glowy and better protected.
$48
Glow20 Facial Tanning Serum, James Read
Speaking of the sun, it’s not likely that we’ll be lounging on a Caribbean beach anytime soon, so this hydrating and tanning facial mask is more than welcome! On top of pampering the skin with encapsulated vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, rose water, and aloe, it can help you achieve your perfect complexion: 20 minutes for a slightly invigorated look (my personal fave), 60 minutes for a more noticeable sunbathing effect, and 90 minutes for a tropical tan. Plus, whichever one you choose, it won’t leave any unsightly tan lines.
$44
Ultra HD Snap! Nail Polish, Revlon
I can no longer go without Revlon’s new Ultra HD Snap! nail polish, a vegan formula free of 20 toxic ingredients. It dries in one minute tops (perfect for a discreet manicure during a Zoom meeting!) and doesn’t require any base or top coats. I’m also loving the wide range of bright colours, especially 031 She’s on Fire (a vibrant fire engine red), 010 Marigold Maven (an energizing canary yellow), and 016 Get Real (a delicate periwinkle blue)!
$7
Milky Mushroom Gentle Cleansing Oil, Kora Organics
Since it launched, this two-phase organic makeup remover, made with sunflower oil, babassu oil, and snow mushroom, has become an inextricable part of my nighttime ritual. You just need to shake it, then massage a small dollop onto your face to erase any trace of makeup or impurities. The milky foam leaves skin soft and hydrated, never oily or sticky.
$49
CedarWood Hand and Body Wash, Apprenti Ôr’ganik
I was already addicted to the herbaceous scents and carefully selected ingredients – including organic hemp oil produced by a local family farm – of this therapeutic cedarwood cleansing gel by Montreal company Apprenti Ôr’ganik. But Alexandrine Pierre, the brand’s founder, went even further by relaunching her products in entirely compostable bottles, made from wheat straw plastic. This is the kind of innovation I truly admire, especially coming from a young Canadian company!
$26
Extreme Bleach Recovery Cica Creme, Redken
As soon as hair salons reopened, I rushed to Montreal’s Funky Toque for colourist Arianne Bélanger to give me the most beautiful blond mane, a much-needed pick-me-up after months of hibernation. Since then, I’ve been treating my bleached locks with this rinse-free recovery cream. Its use of centella asiatica extracts makes it a perfect fit for the growing skinifaction movement, which encourages us to treat our hair and scalp as carefully as we treat our face. I apply a quarter-sized amount of product along the lengths of my hair all the way to the ends before braiding it, and find my capillary fibre strengthened and hydrated.
$24
Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick, Maybelline New York
Pre-pandemic, I wore lipstick every day. That was my trademark. While I found it fun at first to lighten my makeup routine, I’ll admit that watching my precious reds collecting dust felt like a cruel consequence of diligent mask-wearing. Never mind! Since Maybelline’s Color Sensational Ultimatte lipsticks landed on my desk, I’ve been once again finding joy in coating my lips in vibrant colours, whether I’ve got five Zoom meetings on the agenda or none! The hyper-pigmented formula and its velvety matte finish don’t dry out the lips.
$12
Deto2x Pack Oxygenating Mask, Valmont
The rollercoaster stress of the last few months has left my skin feeling high and dry, so it’s with a LOT of anticipation that I tried this new detoxifying mask! Made with Swiss apple stem cells and Swiss watercress, this cream from luxury brand Maison Valmont evolves into an unctuous and effervescent foam as it touches the skin. Within ten minutes or so, the mask depollutes and oxygenates the epidermis. And It works: once the mask is rinsed off, my skin is left brimming with health, as if reinvigorated by a breath of fresh air!
$225 for 6 capsules
Sedatonic Calming Ashwagandha Tincture, Good Goddess
I recently stepped into the world of adaptogens for the first time with this tincture made from ashwagandha, also known as Indian ginseng, an ancient medicinal herb known for its calming and rejuvenating properties. I started adding the recommended dose to a glass of water every morning. I don’t know if the result is a placebo effect or not, but I feel a lot more grounded when faced with the many deadlines that pepper my workdays and all the other stressful aspects of life. I was even able to remain calm after a car accident in the middle of a snowstorm!
