This week’s happenings: 5 on-right-now and here-all-summer events to catch this week

WESTERN PRIDE Status: Giddy up What: Grab the bull by the horns at the 10-day centennial celebration of Canadiana western-style at the Calgary Stampede. When: Now until July 15. Where: Stampede Park, Calgary. Buzzworthy notes: While the fashionable festivities are a little less Royal this year—given that the regal newlyweds Will and Kate attended last year’s roundup—there’s no shortage of bull-riding (IRL or the new Midway rollercoaster, ‘Outlaw’) and deep-fried goodness (from veggies to bacon sundae funnel cakes) this time around. BALLET Status: En pointe What: A behind-the-curtains look at the National Ballet of Canada with the exclusive Design Exchange-hosted exhibit, 60 Years of Designing the Ballet. When: From July 11 to September 2. Where: The Design Exchange, 34 Bay Street, Toronto. Buzzworthy notes: A tale of the storied, 60-year-old national dance institution told in classic tutus, costume sketches and set designs from iconic productions like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Read on for more fashionable events, including the opening of Vancouver's first concept boutique! MODEL BEHAVIOUR Status: Catwalk call What: Fashion industry 101, Canadian model and TV personality Stacey McKenzie hosts the Walk This Way modelling and acting workshop “Owning You and Your Craft.” When: Saturday July 14, 1PM to 4PM Where: Springhill Suites by Marriott, 612 Applewood Crescent, Vaughan, Ontario. Buzzworthy notes: Among the list of Canadian insiders imparting their fashionable wisdom is Fashion Television’s Glen Baxter, online fashion-journo personality Carolyn Rohaly and designer Pat McDonagh. DINNER AND A SHOP Status: Top secret What: The recent opening of the aptly named Euro-inspired, resto-boutique fusion store, Secret Location. When: Opened (hush hush) in June. Where: 1 Water Street, Gastown, Vancouver. Buzzworthy notes: An exclusive hub for the foodie-meets-fashionista set, this concept boutique offers high-end designer labels from New York and Europe, as well as equally luxe eats from the café, like an 8-Layer Sour Cherry-Almond-Pistachio Cheesecake. CARNIVAL RIDE Status: Step right up What: A roller coaster of a summer at Toronto’s Drake Hotel, featuring an all-encompassing cultural grab bag of art exhibits, house parties and yes, rides around the city. When: All summer long. Where: 1150 Queen Street West, Toronto. Buzzworthy notes: Grown-up giddiness of amusement park proportions includes Drakeland’s Sunday Lobster Fare between July 15 and August 26 at 7 PM (The eats? One-pound lobster, grilled corn, herb and butter potatoes, coleslaw, biscuit and shortcake for dessert, as well as a bottle of Keith’s IPA $32; resos only, on the hotel’s Sky Yard patio) and free life-like drawing classes every Tuesday through August 28 at 5 PM.
