Marc Jacobs is leaving Louis Vuitton after 16 years. (OMG.) Our editors on who should replace him

The final day of Paris Fashion Week started with a bang: first, with Marc Jacobs' standout Spring 2014 Louis Vuitton collection, then, with the confirmation that, after 16 years at the helm, Jacobs is leaving the fabled French house. Word is that Jacobs is making the move to focus on taking his eponymous label public à la Michael Kors (à la megabucks). Paris is buzzing with the news that Nicolas Ghesquière— formerly of Balenciaga and one of fashion's most beloved talents—is a lock to take the LV reins. In the meantime, the ELLE Canada team shares their picks for who they would love to see step into LV's top role. LAURA deCARUFEL, executive editor: "I love how Marc Jacobs played with the Louis Vuitton DNA by making it sensual and cool, while also respecting the house's heritage. It Brit designer Jonathan Saunders is still in the earlier stages of his career, but he has a similar mix of creative insouciance and solid craftsmanship. Maybe post Ghesquière?" KATHERINE FLEMMING, beauty & health editor: "I'd love to see some of Alber Elbaz's feminine influence there—especially since it would shake up Lanvin's look too." NOREEN FLANAGAN, editor-in-chief: "I just want to savour the final show today and not think about what comes next. It's my tribute to Marc—I'm keeping my thoughts in the 'fashion moment' so to speak." Sharp, self-assured and wildly inventive—a good fit for LV, no? I'll leave you to ponder that now." SARAH LAING, staff writer: "Mary Katrantzou—I mean, after all this season's black, a little colour would make a nice change!" ALANNAH O'NEILL, associate editor: "I'm with Ava—I'd love to see a Tom Ford/Louis Vuitton partnership. More TF is always a good thing, friends." SARAH THOMPSON, multi-brand producer: "I think it's high time for a female to step in at Louis Vuitton. The brand could use a fashion-forward woman like Stella McCartney—or even Victoria Beckham?"

Match made in heaven? A showgirl head-dress and embellished jeans.

A fantastic fashion take on the leather jacket. And are those black patchwork jeans?

Stay tuned! Our editor-in-chief Noreen Flanagan—who was at this morning's Louis Vuitton show—will share her behind-the-scenes snaps later today.
