It was widely speculated that when film mogul Harvey Weinstein purchased the rights to revive the long-defunct Charles James house last year, that he would give the design honour to his lovely wife, Georgina Chapman of Marchesa. (And by "widely speculated", I mean that I personally thought it was an obvious choice, naturally.)

Turns out that Weinstein, who announced the purchase of the late American couturier’s house just after the Met Ball last May (James’ work was the subject of the the Met’s newly renamed Anna Wintour Costume Center’s annual exhibit), may have another designer in mind: one Zac Posen. According to a Page Six report, Posen has signed on to revive the house. Chapman, as well as her brother, Marchesa CEO Edward Chapman, have been “retained as creative consultants".

It all makes perfect sense now: Posen’s structural and couture-like gowns are a red carpet favourite and are totally in line with James’ old Hollywood aesthetic. James even served as inspiration for Posen’s Fall 2014 collection. Why didn’t we think of this sooner?
