Kate was ever going to have an occasion to face the public in a pair of yoga pants and that old "St Andrew’s University" sweatshirt, today’s royal engagement –
a glorified play date – would have been her moment. But it was not to be….
Instead, the
Duchess of Cambridge went for the closest she could (or the royal dressers would allow her to) get to "American mom casual," wearing a swingy Tory Burch frock and the Cambridge equivalent of Uggs: a pair of low-heeled black pumps. The black-and-white colour scheme, if you’re into trivia, was chosen because it echoes New Zealand’s national hues. Also on hand was her personal (adorably dungareed) hairstylist, a.k.a. Prince George, who spent much of the engagement doing touch-ups on his mother’s famous blowout. (He favours saliva and biting on the strands to keep flyaways at bay.)
