It’s always an indicator of well-crafted style when a character in a film becomes synonymous with a signature fashion movement. (We can hardly remember a time when the boy-meets-girl look wasn’t associated with Annie Hall. ) In honour of these iconic fashion heroines, we rounded up our top summer movie fashion moments, plus the ways to get each look both this season and happily ever after.

Runway inspiration: Menswear tailoring at Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger and Lanvin Fall 2013 shows.

Summer movie: Roman Holiday (1953)
The look:
Ladylike Audrey Hepburn on a romantic European vacation.
Movie fashion moment: Cruising around Rome on the back of a Vespa, Hepburn— pixie-coiffed with a silk scarf tied in a bow around her neck— embodies a stylish, effervescent European charm that precedes her Breakfast at Tiffany’s refinement.
Runway inspiration: See ’50s-inspired silhouettes at Céline and Proenza Schouler’s Fall 2013 shows.
Get the look: Tuck a crisp white blouse (always a classic) into a flowing skirt, fitted at the waist that drapes just past the knees. Ice cream cone is hand in optional; Vespa is always a must.

The look: Old Hollywood glamour-meets-Southern belle charm for an idyllic summer fling in the country.
Movie fashion moment: There are so many: Rachel McAdams sporting a silk headscarf with a powdery blue dress and pearl necklace; the plum short-sleeved dress with leather gloves and floral fascinator; and the high-waisted two-piece red swimsuit with, of course, a matching headband. Basically every outfit is a snapshot of the ’1940s style we always imagine we’d have if only we were born at the right time and place.
Runway inspiration: Leading lady-poise at Bottega Veneta and Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2013 shows.
Get the look: The stuff Hitchcockian heroines were made of—think ultra-feminine looks of cinched waists, accentuated torsos, leather and dainty, curve-hugging dresses. And a headpiece to match, naturally.

A boho-hipster playland, the film acts as one long, roving Instagram that filters Audrey Tautou’s lacey coral tees and matching bright red pout to quirky Parisian perfection.

Haute pajama style at Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs’ Fall 2013 showa.
Get the look: Say oui to structured black blazers, lace camis and midi skirts juxtaposed with menswear-inspired footwear.
