Introducing the ultimate fall/winter 2016 fashion hit list. Which one will you keep on repeat?
Fur
Designers gave fur the movie-star treatment this season, playing with blasts of colour (pink! blue! red!) for maximum exposure. Event he vintage look took a back seat to these bright young things. But don’t worry! There’s plenty of faux-fuzz to go around.
Patent
Introducing vinyl pieces that weren’t made for after-hours clubs or Halloween parties. Give slick dusters, polished pants and glossy turtlenecks a spin any day of the week.
'80s
If you were a party girl in the ’80s, you’ll recognize these club-happy ensembles. If you’re new to the game, Madonna circa “Like a Virgin” is your muse. Everything old is new again.
Galaxy
A whole new sartorial universe with space-age vibes – celestial silver, robotic hardware and planetary accents – has arrived to prove that the future is now. This is not a simulation.
Plaid
Thought you had escaped your high-school uniform? Think again. The checks that once seemed an impediment to your personal style are back as the ultimate marker of individuality.
Men's
There are no rules for borrowing from the boys. In fact, this latest masculine wardrobe transcends gender – it’s not too much
of one thing or too little of another. It just looks good.
Denim
The latest excuse to don a Canadian tuxedo is this season’s reworked jean topper. It’s a new take on the classic, with more attitude and zero apologies.
Oversized
Designers tapped into uncharted territory for fall/winter 2016, transforming familiar silhouettes into caricatures. Pieces got the XXL treatment, leaving us feeling like a shrunken Alice in a supersized world.
Pink
We’ve fallen hard for this season’s colour story, which features the kind of pumped-up pinks that are the perfect complement to summer’s sweet pastels.
Mustard
Your wardrobe’s new main squeeze is bold and buttery. Think of it as the savoury topper you can’t refuse. All dressed? Yes, please!
White
You may not want to be remembered as an ice queen, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dress like one. Embrace winter’s chill with a crisp white uniform.
Purple
Eggplant may have gotten a bad rap recently – Gisele Bündchen won’t go near it or its nightshade relatives – but we say “Bring it on!”
Motocross
No need to date a stunt rider to have an excuse to wear a leather onesie. Fuel your need for speed with these Evel Knievel-inspired outfits. Ring of fire not included.
Varsity
The letterman jacket may have started out as a jock staple, but it’s now part of a growing haute-sport repertoire that’s playing out on runways. Stripes, slogans and sweatshirts for the win.
Biker
The classic black biker jacket, which has become ubiquitous among off-duty models, got a bold makeover with amped-up hardware, new silhouettes and a whole lot of attitude.
Puffer
You don’t have to be headed to the Alps to break out a heavy-duty parka this winter. Amp up your outerwear with a voluminous coat (the puffier the better) and bring après-ski chic to the streets.
Goth Punk
Wearing all-black everything doesn’t have to be morose unless you want it to be. Modern monochromatic is all about casting a longer shadow. Welcome to the dark side.
Floral
“I must have flowers, always and always,” said Claude Monet. Like the painter, designers exhibited a floral obsession but with a tenebrous twist – these petals tell winter’s tale.
Velvet
There’s something legendary about velvet as a fabric – it was a royal staple when it first came on the scene and has retained its status, becoming fall’s answer to urban luxury.
Victorian
Shakespeare was onto something when he penned the phrase “All the world’s a stage.” What is Snapchat if not one generation’s insta-theatre? If it’s drama you’re looking for, opt for notice-me bows and billowy frocks, and, above all, cover up!
