The Black Design Collective Is Fostering Black Talent
London Fashion Week begins today and all the fashion news on Instagram that you might have missed.
by : Erica Ngao- Feb 15th, 2019
Despite the industry’s efforts to become more inclusive and diverse, the recent missteps from high fashion brands like Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana demonstrate that the conversation is far from over. The Black Design Collective is looking to change that. Recently launched, the Los Angeles-based group is creating a platform to amplify and support the work of black designers. The organization was formed by designers Angela Dean, Kevan Hall, Ruth Carter and TJ Walker, and they spoke to WWD their plans, which include a mentorship program. Current members include designers like Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond.
