Marc Jacobs accepted the first-ever Fashion Trailblazer Award at the MTV VMAs last night to celebrate his years of working with iconic musicians.

The award, which was presented in partnership between MTV and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, was created to honour a designer whose work has made a significant impact within music and fashion.

From his infamous grunge-inspired Perry Ellis spring 1993 collection to using MTV logos in his clothing to ads featuring icons like Cher, musical influences have always been a part of the designer’s work.

Jacobs’ brought his legacy onto the red carpet with an entourage of models wearing creations originally made for artists like Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Missy Elliott.

The designer also had his own Wizard of Oz moment on the red carpet, wearing embellished Prada ruby pumps to accessorize his bespoke Huntsman suit and Hermès clutch.
