When Ada Kokosar says some of her shoes are “champagne-proof,” she’s not (entirely) joking. The street-style star turned designer wraps some of the satin and crystal-embellished heels in her Midnight 00 collection in ruffled PVC. The look was inspired by Cinderella’s lost glass slipper, the New York-based designer tells us. “PVC is the perfect material to create an object belonging to fairy tales,” she says. It may also be finally enough to convince us to retire our sneakers for our next night out.

What’s the story behind the latest collection? “The inspiration comes from the idea of midnight when we dream. It’s reminiscent of childhood—but instead we party.”

Where did the idea of the protective coating come from? “I wanted to create something that could last for a long time and be passed down.”

What is your creative process? “I don’t design the shoes; I come up with a mood board—the feeling of the colours and textures and fabrics. Once I have all these materials with me, I wrap everything around the foot like it’s a mannequin.”
