Back for the sixth year, the annual Canadian Arts and Fashion Awards (CAFA) have announced the official nominees and honourees for 2019. The awards recognize and celebrate outstanding work across the fashion industry including designers, stylists, models, and hair and makeup artists.

For the first time, CAFA opened up 16 award categories for self-nomination, with the goal of encouraging a wider diversity of applicants. Also new this year: two award categories recognizing the Makeup Artist of the Year and Hair Artist of the Year.

CAFA selected three honourees to celebrate this year: Fashion and art curator Thierry-Maxime Loriot will receive the 2019 Vanguard Award, photographer and photojournalist Douglas Kirkland will receive the 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award and Brother Vellies founder Aurora James will receive the International Canadian Designer Award.

Returning again this year, The Suzanne Rogers Designer Grant for International Development will award $20,000 to a promising Canadian designer or brand to help with international expansion. The winner of this grant will be chosen by a panel including Rogers, fashion strategist Suzanne Timmins, and designer Todd Lynn.

Winners will be announced at a red carpet gala to be held on May 30 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.
