Editor obsessions: Jessica Stam, Max Mara and more
An evening with Coach and Jessica Stam
On Wednesday night Coach hosted media and special guests, including Canadian model Jessica Stam, in its recently revamped Bloor Street store to celebrate the brand’s new apparel collection for Fall, which still has us chattering about which shearlings we’re going to cozy up with this season. We caught up with New York-based Stam, who shared some impromptu advice:
1.Don’t be afraid to ask for help. The model admitted to hiring someone from TaskRabbit to help her pack before her jaunt to Toronto. “Sometimes you just need extra help,” she said.
2. Just go with the flow. Stam, who recently joined Snapchat admitted to liking the fleeting nature of the social media platform: “It’s very non-committal. You don’t have to think about curating your page. You post [and] it’s fun.”
3.Your uniform matters. According to Stam, the key to getting off-duty model style is simple: “Wear a leather jacket, skinny jeans, combat boots, a big purse, lots of jewellery and no makeup.”
Max Mara x William Wegman’s “Dogs in Coats”
Dogs wearing coats – need we say more? Last night, Max Mara’s travelling photography exhibition with William Wegman, titled “Dogs in Coats” stopped by Toronto. The photos cleverly depict Weimaraners wearing Max Mara’s signature 101801 camel coats. The 101801 is an iconic piece, but it’s no longer in production. In honour of this exhibit, the coat came out of retirement. A limited edition batch of these camel toppers is available at every stop of the photo tour – now there’s something we’d love to get our paws on. The tour continues on to Short Hills, San Francisco, and Houston over the next month and ends in Waikiki on December 1st.
Sydney Evan Jewellery Trunk Show at Holt Renfrew
Founded in 2001 by Rosanne Karmes, this L.A.-based jewellery line has been worn by the likes of Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence. Starting today until November 9th, Holt Renfrew on Bloor is hosting a trunk show of Karmes’ creations: like 14k gold necklaces bearing “love,” “faith” and even “yolo” in playful cursive. Here is a preview.
An Hermès clutch coat, a pleated Chanel tennis dress, a burnt-orange Marni top –these were just a few of the impressive items that hung on the racks of last year’s Koffler Couture’s Vintage Designer Sale. This treasure-hunter’s dream is back this year, with advance tickets going on sale today. A $75 VIP ticket grants advance entry the night before the sale – raising your chances of nabbing a piece to brag about for years to come. All proceeds go to the Koffler Centre of the Arts, with prices starting at $5. It goes down December 5th – we suggest exercising your arm muscles now, you’ll need them to sort through the overstuffed racks. Buy your ticket here.
