As is the case with most must-have fashion trends, what was once a cult-favourite decades ago will eventually circle back into the present day trend line up (hello, corsets). And it turns out, the next trend making a comeback from long ago, will see western fashion reign supreme.

Enter: Cowboy boots.

Unlike traditional cowboy boots, this present-day style shows functionality to the saloon door and welcomes in the aesthetic and Southern charm the trend is known for.

Ranging in heights from mid-calf to knee-length, famous faces have been seen sporting the higher variation of the boot, leaving ankle high boots in the previous decades they came from. When it comes to heel height, a similar ethos is followed by Hollywood’s A-list with Dua Lipa opting for heels of the taller variety while Sophie Turner donned a shorter, somewhat midi-heel option.

As for fabrication, aged tans and browns, as well as crimsons and black seem to be the order of the day, with some celebrities opting to pick theirs up secondhand from their favourite vintage store, not only to ensure a more authentic look to their shoe but to reduce their impact on consumerism.

At the other end of the style spectrum, metallics, both traditional silvers and golds and bold colour pops, have proved the perfect statement shoe.

Worn and well-loved by not only Lipa and Turner, various other famous faces have taken a liking to the trend as well, with Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner (who owns multiple variations) sporting the look too. And clearly, the trend looks to be going nowhere anytime soon.

When it comes to styling cowboy boots, they are surprisingly simple to pair with a chic ensemble. Take a leaf from Jenner’s book and throw on a set with a summer dress for a subtle style, or embrace your inner cowgirl à la Lipa and pair them with a red checked button-down and denim shorts.
