When it comes to denim, fashion authority Alexa Chung knows what she’s talking about. Designing a collection for AG Jeans in 2015 and fronting the brand’s fall 2016 campaign simply complement the 33-year-old British “It” girl’s affinity for jeans. Here’s what she told ELLE.com’s Faran Krentcil about the new wave of denim she foresees in the new year.

On predicting denim 2017 trends:

“We’ve had distressed edges. We’ve had culottes. We’ve had high waisted jeans, we’ve seen the heralding of the new bootcut back again. I’m so sorry to say this to you, but the only way forward is ultra-hipsters, you know? Like super-low cut, low-rider jeans, to the extreme.”

On wearing men’s jeans:

“I wish we could, but no. Here’s the thing about boys: they secretly have very narrow hips. Depressingly, you can never get into their fucking jeans. Even me!”

On denim trends that need to go:

“Oh, easy: bumsters. I already can’t handle it.”
