Champers, Cupcakes and Canadian Fashion

A well-heeled crowd descended upon Magnolia boutique last Thursday to celebrate the in-store launch of Basch by Brandon Dwyer with bubbly and sweets.
The Eglinton and Avenue staple is my go-to when I need a Canadian fashion fix. With labels like Lucian Matis, Zoran Dobric and IZMA, owner Juan Carlos artfully selects garments with his loyal clientele in mind. “I like to celebrate Canadian designers,” Juan Carlos says. “It’s important to recognize what you have in your own backyard.”
Known for his impeccable eye (Juan Carlos is one of the only people I trust to style me for events), Magnolia seamlessly blends designers from all over the world—like Love, Moschino and Badgley Michka— but has a soft spot for our homegrown talent. “Going to fashion week is crucial because I get to see immediate reaction to the runway shows.” Carlos says. With LG Fashion Week by the FDCC fast approaching, there should be no shortage of Canuck designers to choose from. Visit Magnolia Boutique at
