The year was 2009: Obama had just been elected president, the first Avatar movie hit theaters and blew everyone’s minds, Bitcoin had only just been established and no one knew what that meant, Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift at the VMAs and the Alexander Wang Rocco Bag was on the arm of every It Girl.

The mini duffle-style bag had a huge waitlist and was a favourite of Rihanna, Zoë Kravitz, the Olsen’s, Ashley Tisdale and Brittany Snow. The slouchy pebbled leather meant it was casual with a touch of edge thanks to the chunky metal studs that lined the bottom and it fit in perfectly with the era of the big bag–something we’ve moved away from in 2024.

With that in mind, Alexander Wang is revisiting the Rocco and updating it for the new generation in the form of the Ricco. The Ricco maintains the original’s edgy appeal with textured leather and iconic trapezoidal-shaped studs but the hardware has been redesigned in aluminum to make it 30% lighter than the weighty Rocco.

The new style comes in two sizes (small and medium) both of which are genderless, smaller than the original and can be worn on the shoulder. The bags are both available now and retail for $1,280 and $1,510 CAD respectively.
