Champagne hues, Bolero jackets and embossed croc wow at VAWK

Beside the grand spiral staircase under the cascading light at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Sunny Fong showed Toronto’s fashion community how far he’s come since his stint on
Project Runway. Fong’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection, called “Toro Safari” is “Africa and Spain caught together in a bullfighting ring,” says the designer. The looks boast a palette of camel tones, gunmetal greys and whisper soft blushes—
au courant hues with a timeless appeal. The VAWK girl was more overtly sexual than in seasons past, with models strutting in flamenco dresses that flashed décolletage and body con minis that made the made girls’ gams look endless. The Black Zebra number that closed the show was, in the words of Noreen Flanagan, a “showstopper.”
