While craft jewellery and dopamine dressing continues to reign supreme, the jewellery world is encountering their own “vibe shift.”

TikTok may have you convinced that the ‘”rich” or “clean” girl aesthetics pioneered by Hailey Bieber should have you gravitating towards gold jewellery, we’re here to argue that this classic jewellery trend is worth trying your hand at.

Despite necklace stacking having taken centre stage as the preferred means of elevating your ensembles, ring layering is having its time in the sun making sure your digits are aptly dressed for every occasion.

And it’s easy to see why this look is taking over. From mixing metals making a comeback, to metallic silver hues the sartorial supreme tone, ring stacking is the perfect way to subtly showcase your personality and experiment with different jewellery trends.

Of course, with pop sensation and bonafide style star, Harry Styles, as the ring layering poster child, it’s easy to have an affinity for this specific look.

Below, we round up the definitive expert-approved guide to ring stacking, including the trends to trial.

What Is Ring Stacking?

Cult-favourite jewellery brand Mejuri is a go-to for ring stacking, which is why we’ve tapped the labels Chief Creative Officer Justine Lançon to explain the art of ring stacking.

“The art of ring stacking is the ultimate form of self expression. With the right rotation of rings, a ring stack can give you endless ways to curate your look depending on your mood and lifestyle,” said Lançon.

“It is so popular because it’s personal and unique to you.”

Ring stacking includes layering multiple rings on the same finger, trying different ring styles across multiple digits and even creating a complete, curated jewellery aesthetic.

Why Is Ring Stacking So Popular?

“Now more than ever, society is celebrating individuality, self expression and maximalism,” Lançon exclusively explains to ELLE Australia.

“Stacking rings – or even wearing one statement ring – allows customers to style each piece in a way that brings out who they are, from the inside out,” she adds.

If you look at Harry Styles for example, you can immediately gauge his style preferences from one glimpse of his Pleasing polished fingers.

From his initial ‘HS’ rings to the Gucci Lion style, you can gauge his eclectic and quintessentially British sensibility.

However, in order to create your perfect ring stack, Lançon recommends investing in “high-quality pieces that you can keep and wear forever.”

“It’s about celebrating yourself”, Lançon explains. A benefit to a ring stack is that it allows you to restyle and reinvent pieces you already own, so you’ll never feel that something is going out of style or was an impulse buy.

Regardless if your style is timeless or eclectic, maximalist or minimalist, ring stacking is the understated albeit sophisticated way to showcase your own taste and soft layer your style.

How To Stack And Style Your Rings

Of course, with a plethora of ring styles and silhouettes trending at the moment, it’s difficult to know which rings look better when paired together, and which are better kept apart.

“We really believe there are no rules when it comes to jewellery; it is a personal choice,” explains Lançon, however Mejuri has designed a ‘formula’ that makes jewellery stacking “less intimidating and more approachable.”

“If you’re looking to get into stacking or layering, we suggest focusing on one main feature, such as texture,” Lançon continues.

“Textured pieces can really make your stack playful and unique. You can then build on the texture with something more minimal – consider it your “white tee” of rings.

“Every stack needs a pop – a hint of any colour helps add dimension to your stack—add colour to play up seasonality, emotion or go for whichever shade you connect to.”

Lançon also recommends mixing metals to add dimension to your stack.

“Mixing metals can be daunting, but often we have vintage pieces or even our wedding bands that we want to complement,” she remarks.

“Silver and white gold offer a striking contrast to yellow gold, and can enhance any look. An easy way to mix metals is to put a white gold or silver piece in between two yellow gold pieces, or vice versa.”

“Finally, lean into personalization and add meaning to your stack. Poignant pieces are way more than trends: you’ll wear and love them far beyond the end of the year,” she adds.
