Toronto Fashion Week, Spring 2011: Philip Sparks enters womenswear arena–women everywhere rejoice
By Nancy Won It may have been cold and dreary last night but inside
Philip Sparks’ Queen West showroom it felt like the first day of
spring. Picnic plaids, watery blues and sunshine-y digital prints appeared as classic trench coats, chambrays and slim-cut blazers for spring 2011 and (perhaps most exciting of all) flirty feminine takes for us ladies added blouses, shirtdresses and jumpers to the mix for the first time.
We’ve always loved Sparks’ preppy, tailored take on menswear but now that he’s added
womenswear to his repertoire—well, fashion week (or is it still technically pre-fashion week…?) just got a lot more interesting. The collection exuded the kind of dreamy magic that comes along with a spring sun shower: fresh, flirty and nostalgic—aka. vintage Sparks. Our only regret is having to wait ‘till spring to get our hands on it.
